Stay Out Of Problems In Kuala Lumpur, Khalid been Told

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- The Selangor state government led by Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should concentrate on settling problems in the state instead of trying to play politics by offering to solve the woes of Kampung Baru folks in Kuala Lumpur.

Federal Territories Deputy Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said the Ministry and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur had already drawn up plans to develop the city's oldest Malay settlement and efforts were underway to implement these development projects with the consent of the people living there.

Sunday, Khalid said the Selangor government had offered to help protect the rights and interest of landowners in Kampung Baru, adding that the opposition government would set up a task force comprising land experts and town planners from the Selangor State Development Corporation and provide monetary aid of RM50,000 to study various issues pertaining to the development of the land.

"Please keep your hands off this problem as it is not a problem of the Selangor state government. I know he is the Bandar Tun Razak (Kuala Lumpur) Member of Parliament but that does not give him the right to use the Selangor state government machinery to get involved in issues in Kuala Lumpur."

The Menteri Besar has also said that he was doing this because Kampung Baru was once part of Selangor. Off course, the whole of Kuala Lumpur was once part of Selangor but does that give the Selangor government the right to intervene in issues in Kuala Lumpur.

"We are doing no harm to the people in Kampung Baru. We just want them to have a proper life like any other resident in the city," he told reporters after a briefing on the Kuala Lumpur draft plan 2020 by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur consultants to MIC national leaders and Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur MIC division heads at the MIC headquarters here.

The deputy minister said Selangor had bigger problems which needed to be solved immediately and that Khalid should concentrate on solving these woes instead of looking over one's shoulders.

"This is the problem with the opposition government. They find fault with everything under the sun except themselves. They think they are that perfect that whatever they do is right and whatever the Barisan Nasional government does is wrong... this is their style of politics," Saravanan added.
He said if Khalid had any grouses over the development plans of Kampung Baru, then the Menteri Besar should meet Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur officials or high ranking officials of the Federal Territories Ministry to solve the problems instead of trying to whip up anger and dissatisfaction among the people of Kampung Baru.-- BERNAMA
